Oregon vs. Washington Game 2 [01/25/20]
By Nathan Garcia
After winning the I-5 cup the night before, the Ducks looked to make it 9 straight against the Huskies on Saturday night. Once again it was all Ducks as they proved they continue to have the University of Washington’s number, 8-2 to be exact, as the Ducks beat the Huskies in back to back nights with the exact same margin.
Captain Warren Berg got the first of eight, getting a lucky bounce off a Washington defenders skate to make it 1-0 (14:03 assisted by Shott).
It was quickly 2-0 after Jack Geraghty stole the puck off a Washington break out and made a beautiful cross-ice pass to Trevor Shott (13:29 assisted by Geraghty).
Connor Rendell would get his second highlight-reel goal of the weekend in a similar fashion to his first, dangling through a defender and finishing on his backhand to make it 3-0 (10:41 unassisted).
About halfway through the second, Kirt Fortney found himself alone in front and capitalized to make it 4-0 (12:36 assisted by Rendell and Charnholm).
The Huskies came alive in the later stages of the second period, scoring two goals to make it 4-2 going into the 3rd.
The Ducks turned on their third-period scoring switch once again. Andrew Lee got the first of four unanswered goals off a wicked slapshot from just inside the blue line, making it 5-2 (16:46 unassisted).
Freshman Goalie Rodney Peterson stood his ground in the 3rd stopping everything and improving to 7-1-0.
Andrew Lee would stuff home a powerplay marker (14:46 assisted by Shott) followed by two goals from Jack Geraghty to make it a final score of 8-2 (8:48 unassisted) (7:50 assisted by Lee and Pultz).
Trevor Shott and Connor Rendell both reached career milestones in Washington. Shott reaching 200 career points for 1st place all-time and Rendell reaching 100 for 3rd place all-time.
