Oregon vs. Washington Game 1 [01/24/20]

By Nathan Garcia

After going up 2-0 in the I-5 cup series back in October, the Ducks traveled to Seattle to take on their rivals University of Washington last Friday night. With the trophy up for grabs, the Ducks came out firing, winning 8-2 and taking the I-5 cup back to Eugene for the second year in a row.

Just two minutes in, the Ducks would strike first. Leading scorer, Andrew Lee buried home a rebound goal off a Warren Berg point shot to make it 1-0 (18:15 assisted by Berg and Shott).

Andrew Lee and Trevor Shott would connect again, this time Shott tipping it home from a centering pass by Lee to make it 2-0 (12:30 assisted by Lee).

Washington would respond with a powerplay goal to make it a 2-1 game after 20 minutes of play.

The next goal in the 2nd would be huge and both teams fought hard for it. Oregon would get rewarded as Austin Charnolm fired in a snapshot goal to make it 3-1 (12:09 unassisted).

Washington would once again keep things interesting, as Connor Nehls got his second of the game right before the end of the period (0:23).

The Ducks started their scoring party in the 3rd just 55 seconds in, Connor Rendell dangled through the legs of one defender and finished on his backhand to make it 4-2 (19:55 assisted by Morrison and Charnholm).

Oregon would get goals from Austin Pultz (17:07 assisted by Lee and Morrison) and Isaiah Strategos (16:27 assisted by Lutz and Estrada) just a minute apart to make it 6-2.

Two more goals from Andrew Lee (18:28 unassisted) and Connor Rendell (7:14 assisted by Shott and Berg) would clear out the Washington student section as the Ducks won 8-2. Goalie Grayson Parks improved to 9-3-0 on the year.
