Oregon vs. Cal-Berkeley [10/09/21]

The Ducks Sweep Cal

By: Nathan Garcia

MEDFORD, Ore. -- After skating off some summer rust in game one, the Ducks looked even more dominant in their second game of the season winning 8-2.

Caden Gordon opened the scoring just 3 minutes in, burying a shot from the point to make it 1-0 (17:15). Austin Pultz would mimic, putting the puck on net from point to make it 2-0 (13:35).

After Cal made the game 2-1, Jimmy Gagan found fellow freshman Liam Baird streaking down the ice. Baird took it from there, blowing by the defenseman and sliding it five-hole to make it 3-1 (12:22).

Cal wouldn’t go away making it a 3-2 game going into the 2nd (5:15).

A scrum at the end of the 1st would lead to 4 on 4 hockey to start the 2nd. Speedy forward Liam Baird took advantage, flying down the ice, throwing it on net, and getting a lucky bounce off the defender’s skate to make it 4-2 (19:20).

The Ducks continued to run up the scoreboard in the 2nd, getting goals from Connor Rendell (8:06) and Austin Charnholm (1:35).

The lone goal in the 3rd would go to Austin Charnholm who ripped home a powerplay one-timer to make it 8-2 (6:45).

Junior goalie Rodney Peterson would get the win in net.
