Ducks Open PAC-8 Vs EWU
This weekend the University of Oregon Ducks (1-0-0-1) will travel north to Cheney, Washington where they will face off in a two-game series against the Eastern Washington University Eagles (4-0-0). The Eagles have not lost a game thus far in their season which began on September 21st against the University of Idaho and continued with wins over University of Washington.
The Eagles 2018 season marks their first in the PAC-8. Previously, EWU has had two teams a "JV" ACHA D2 team and a "varsity" team that played in the BCIHL (Canadian College Hockey). Friday nights game will mark Eastern Washington University’s first PAC-8 game on their home ice. With the combining of their two teams into a single ACHA D2 club program, Eastern is expected to be a powerhouse team in the 2018-2019 season.
In their 2017-2018 season the Ducks played 4 total games against the Eagles ultimately splitting the series. Although Oregon is a confident group of players, Eastern Washington is an intimidating team to play due to its strong local fanbase, on campus rink, and well-managed team.
In their most recent games against UW, EWU put points on the board fast to overcome to the Huskies. Senior goalie Tyler O’Donnell had an impressive showing, saving 16 of 18 shots on goal. The Ducks game back in their second game against the Eugene Generals on September 29th after suffering a loss the night before. Their 7-1 win over the Generals is the type of hockey they will need to play against the Eagles this coming weekend.
The Ducks will play in Cheney on October 5th and 6th at the EWU University Recreation Center located on the EWU campus. Tickets are available for purchase at the door.
