Oregon vs. SDSU [10/16/21]
The Ducks Win a Defensive Battle 2-1
By: Nathan Garcia
EUGENE, Ore. -- A packed Rink Exchange along with a strong 2nd period helped the Ducks (3-0-0) sweep San Diego State in game 2.
A free-flowing first period led to good chances on both ends but the goalies stood their ground keeping it a 0-0 game after 1.
The Ducks came out strong to start the 2nd, playing strictly in the SDSU zone. After three minutes, they got rewarded, as Jimmy Gagan found the puck through a mad scramble to poke it in (17:05).
The Ducks kept their foot on the gas, throwing pucks on the net and eventually getting a big goal from Connor Rendell to make it 2-0 (6:57). Rendell has scored in all four games this season.
The back and forth play would pick back up in the 3rd. SDSU would score a shorthanded goal to make it 2-1(10:16).
Rodney Peterson, with help from his defenseman, would fend off the final push from the Aztecs to secure the 2-1 win. Peterson gets his second win of the season and moves to a .955 save percentage on the season.
