SALT LAKE City, Utah. -- The Ducks (12-2-0) traveled to Utah to take on their 3rd ACHA D1 opponent of the season, The University of Utah (6-7-3). The last time these two teams met was on November 6th, 2015 when Utah was a member of Division 2. A late 2nd period game tying goal from Connor Rendell would give the Ducks hope but it wasn't enough as Utah won 3-1.
Both teams spent the majority of the first feeling each other out, playing dump and chase, and now allowing any good chances.
As the period winded down, Utah finally got a break and capitalized, making it a 1-0 going into the locker room (19:37 McKay Pond assisted by Che Landikusic).
A back and forth 2nd period led to good chances on both ends. The Ducks got two powerplay chances but couldn't connect.
The Ducks would get a late period goal of their own. Connor Rendell buried a one timer from the slot to tie the game at 1-1 (19:47 assisted by Kirt Fortney and Liam Baird). Rendell leads the team with 15 goals in 15 games played.
Utah would score an early goal in the 3rd to go up 2-1 (0:33 Steven Pawlow assisted by Cole Musick).
The Ducks made a strong final empty net push but Utah would get the last goal making it a 3-1 final (19:58 Wyatt Light assisted by Dylan Dix).
