Oregon Wins 7-4 in First-Ever Outdoor Game

Bend, Oregon. -- On Friday night, Oregon (14-4-0) and Boise State (8-9-1) skated out to 25-degree winds and a sold-out Pavilion for game one of a weekend series outdoors in Bend. A back and forth game would leave things tied going into the third but it was Oregon who pulled away late to win 7-4 behind Connor Rendell’s hat trick.
1st
The Ducks started the game strong, outshooting the Broncos 7-2. However, Boise State struck first to go up 1-0 (8:26).
Oregon tied the game towards the end of the first when Charlie Maher poked home a loose puck in front (18:20 assisted by Hunter Voyles and Jimmy Gagan).
2nd
Kirt Fortney and Connor Rendell connected for their bread and butter goal as Fortney found Rendell in the slot to go up 2-1 (5:57 assisted by Kirt Fortney and Austin Pultz).
Boise State responded on the power play to tie the game at two (8:37).
Fortney and Rendell would connect again, this time on a two-on-one as Rendell finished off a saucer pass to take back the lead (12:37 assisted by Kirt Fortney and Jimmy Gagan).
Boise State played in Oregon’s zone to end the second and got rewarded, tying the game at 3-3 (19:03).
3rd
Boise State’s power play connected again to take an early 4-3 lead in the final period (0:51).
Griffin Minchin stole the puck in the neutral zone, turned on the jets, and finished five-hole on a breakaway to tie the game at 4-4 (6:54).
Jimmy Gagan then buried what would be the eventual game-winner, snipping it glove side from the hash mark to go up 5-4 (12:28 assisted by Liam Baird and Austin Charnholm).
Just 21 seconds later Connor Rendell finished off his hat trick, putting in a rebound to make it 6-4 (12:49 assisted by Seth Platt and Isaiah Strategos).
Charlie Maher would get his second of the night and last of the game to put the exclamation point on a 7-4 win (15:35 assisted by Lars Kroes).
Rodney Peterson made 23 saves in net for the win.
